                    About Katy Hill

I am a multi-media artist based in Dorset, in the UK.

I trained in Graphic Design at the University of the Arts, London (LCC), where I developed a love of digital design, but I have also always had

an equally strong passion for hands-on fine art in all media.

Prior to my time studying at LCC, I lived, studied and worked in Manchester, London and Setubal, Portugal (teaching in higher, further and adult education, and, later, as an editor and reporter in the television industry and the UK Parliament). I am now lucky enough to be based on a farm in Dorset, living in beautiful surroundings, with two beautiful Lusitano horses, a dog and a long-suffering husband!

When I am not riding or being kept busy with my two horses, dog, husband, house, family, etc etc,  I can often be found in my studio, working on ideas, sketches, paintings, collages and drawings, in all sorts of media.

I take much of my inspiration from where

I live. Nature, wildlife, conservation and environmental issues are of particular interest, especially since I also have an MSc in Sustainable Development, and a deep concern about climate change and our role as  custodians of the planet. I studied Social Anthropology at Manchester University and people from all walks of life and backgrounds never cease to fascinate me. Now, living on a farm in Dorset, after living in cities for most of my life, I find the all-too-often unsung rural workforce a constant source of inspiration, so love to paint and draw rural (and especially equine) workers.

I am also an active member of Dorchester Art Club, and was proud to win a couple of the Club's annual art competitions in 2024. In the summer, I won the Les Phillips cup with one of my favourite works,  an ink drawing of my dog Broccoli, which was later selected for the prestigious Sherborne Summer Exhibition. I also won the Dorchester Art Club's annual Christmas Card competition with my 'Robin in the Snow' watercolour, now available as limited edition cards or prints. I have just joined Blandford Art Society, too, and am looking forward to attending one of their sessions soon.

I attend regular life-drawing sessions with Jack Dickson, who is a very inspiring and talented local artist. Through this group it has been great to meet other local artists, from whom I am learning a lot and enjoying meeting up with socially.

I hope you will enjoy looking at my work. Please feel free to get in contact, whether you are a collector, someone looking to commission artwork, or simply someone who is interested in any aspect of my work.  Here are some examples of recent works, some of which are available as originals, as well as prints. I am about to upgrade the website and add a shop, but, for now, would love to connect with people interested in buying my work on email, so it would be great if you could sign up to receive news by sending me your email address via the Contact Form at the end.  Thanks so much for taking the time to view the site.

Please message me on Instagram cuckoopintart or via this site if you are interested in buying any artwork. Many thanks.
